Welcome to Levels for Learning!
This blog is named after a presentation I’ve done several times at educational conferences, on the value and use of video games in classroom learning. That same subject will be the focus of this blog – along with other issues regarding education and game design.
For those of you who don’t know me, I’m currently the Manager of Creative Design and Media at McGraw-Hill’s Center for Digital Innovation. What does that mean? Good question!
Our office creates educational technology for the K-12 school market…which means creating tools and materials for teachers, administrators, parents, and students. I tend to focus mostly on the student side – working closely with our editors and instructional designers, artists and audio staff, and programmers to elevate the level of interactivity, engagement, and fun while maintaining the educational value of the experiences we deliver…many of which are games.
I love it! I work with some amazing people and we have a lot of fun creating something we think has real value.
This blog is not intended to be an ad for the products I work on. It’s hopefully going to be a discussion of how anyone could or should go about creating educational technology, particularly in the form of games.
If you’re here reading, then I also hope you will participate!
Thanks,
-Jonathan
